Rob the Rubbish Cleans Up with Heil

No more rubbish for Ben Nevis

Heil Europe, The UK's leading refuse collection vehicle manufacturer was proud to be associated with 'Rob the Rubbish' on his litter collection adventure - Ben Nevis Event May 13th 2006.

Heil Europe and Rob the Rubbish had been coordinating a litter disposal campaign for many months. Heil, in conjunction with Highland Council, kindly loaned a refuse collection vehicle for the day and provided bibs and caps for Rob and the team to wear. Heil also provided pick up sticks, gloves and plastics bags for the event.

Rob Kevan, better known as 'Rob the Rubbish', is a 61 year old retired social worker from the town of Llanwrtyd Wells, Powys in Mid Wales and has been clearing litter from mountains since 2005 after hearing a Radio 5 Live report stating that Ben Nevis was strewn in litter.

Rob the Rubbish has become quite the celebrity with appearances on Richard and Judy, BBC Countryfile and BBC Wales. He has also been invited onto numerous radio programmes and had articles written about him in many newspapers and magazines. To date, Rob has collected from Snowdon, Ben Nevis, The Cheviot in Northumberland and the Brecon Beacons. In October this year, Rob the Rubbish is going to Everest Base Camp to see what improvements he can make there.

Tommy Smith, UK Sales Manager for Heil Europe comments; "This was an exciting opportunity for Heil and a really enjoyable day. We were pleased that we could help. We provided a Highland Council Powerlink 22 unit for the day for collection and disposal of litter and Brian Martin of Heil Europe, the driver of the vehicle on the day and a keen mountaineer, even ended going up the mountain on the Sunday to help the team".

Rob the Rubbish comments; "The Ben Nevis event turned out to be one of the best experiences of my life. Not only was the weather really good but the volunteers were all lovely people, well organised by the Lochaber Area Conservation Team and Nevis Partnership, and by Sunday evening Ben Nevis had virtually NO litter on its main route from bottom to top. That was the object of the exercise and we achieved it."

Rob continues; "Heil were amazing in their support. Not only did they donate lots of the equipment but they also produced a very impressive refuse vehicle to take our 15 bags of litter away. My warmest thanks to Heil for helping to make this inaugural event such a resounding success."

A further clean of Ben Nevis is planned for 7th/8th October 2006 at the end of the visitor season.
