Top Cleanaway Driver Gets New Heil Big Bite
A Heil Big Bite, which has been in service for eleven years, travelled over a million kilometres and never been in an accident, has stepped down from the frontline to be replaced by a brand new Big Bite.
The old Big Bite, built on a Volvo chassis, is however still in top condition and owes this to Cleanaway driver Russell Hoad. St Albans based Russell was issued with the rear end loader having worked for Cleanaway for some sixteen years. Now after nearly eleven years of sterling service, it is being replaced by the latest Big Bite body.
It is unusual for a truck to be driven by only one driver throughout its life and Russell Hoad drove his from new. What is even more remarkable is that the truck having covered over one million kilometres in the busy North London area, has never had an accident, a true testament to Russell's exceptional driving skills and professionalism.
A delighted Russell said, "I love the job and think the Heil and Volvo combination is the best in the business. I will be sorry to see the old girl go but can't wait to start driving my new truck".
Lawrie Pirie, Cleanaway Fleet Manager, congratulated him on the condition of his old vehicle and said, "With the roads becoming more and more congested, it gets harder to drive a truck without having any accidents. Russell's record is tremendous, I wish we had a hundred more like him. The condition of his old Big Bite is a credit to him and a reflection of his professionalism as a driver - well done Russell".
He went on to add: "The general condition of this vehicle, its durability and low cost of ownership after eleven years service is also a reflection on the quality of Heil products. It is for this reason, and after a partnership for so many years, that Cleanaway continue to purchase the Heil / Volvo combination."
Heil's Big Bite is considered to be the industry standard in REL design. It offers a refuse carrying capacity of up to 31m3, which with the large 2.5m3 hopper, facilitates the collection of large refuse items and reduces the collection time for each trip by increasing the volume packed in each cycle. It can lift bins up to 1100 litres and with its programmable logic controls (PLC) the Big Bite offers simplified control, reliable operation and system conditioning monitoring.
