New Heil Recycling Model Unveiled at CV Show

A newly designed Heil RCV, which is specifically targeted at the recycling market, on display at the Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC (April 15th-17th) has been handed over to South Cambridgeshire District Council for whom is was built.

The vehicle is a Powerlink 19, fitted with a Heil UTL trade hoist. The vehicle is also fitted with a 5M recycling pod at the front of the body and all this is then mounted to an 8x4 32Tonne Mercedes chassis.

South Cambridgeshire District Council has a progressive environmental policy and the new vehicle is designed to increase trade waste collection and recycling without the need for two separate vehicles, thus reducing the council’s carbon footprint.

Stuart Harwood-Clark, Environment Operations Manager for the council commented: “The new design means we can carry extra weight and perform new services, but the vehicle has the same turning circle as our old one. We can now offer a paper recycling service to our trade customers without having to lay on an extra vehicle. This is perfect for our aim to be at the forefront of environmental excellence”.

The council operates a further 15 RCVs for domestic collections, 10 of which are Heil vehicles, and has the honour of being number one in the country for green waste recycling. “We want to be No.1 for other areas as well” added Stuart, “and this new Heil Powerlink is another step towards achieving this goal. The excellent performance of the Heil RCV’s gives us operational reliability as well as flexibility in our working patterns”.

Paul Brown, Regional Sales Manager for Heil Europe added “Stuart wanted to build up recycling with his trade customers. And he wanted to do this without losing the efficiency of his current 26T trade vehicle. What we have done is build a vehicle with a similar sized body as his old vehicle but have added a recycling pod on the front for paper. The council is now able to offer their trade customers a separate paper recycling service along with a trade service. This is done without the need of another vehicle, so cuts down on man power and reduces the carbon footprint”.

For nearly 30 years Heil Europe has tailored its products and services to match the exacting needs of RCV operators in both the private and public sectors. By combining a close understanding of specific user requirements with flexible and dynamic engineering, Heil Europe has developed a range of Refuse Collection Vehicles unsurpassed for efficiency and reliability.
