Big Bite for a Big Area
Kirklees Council covers a large conurbation area of Yorkshire stretching from Huddersfield through Dewsbury, Holmfirth and the many villages of the Colne Valley and Denby Dale. With over 160,000 households and a population of just under half a million, the council refuse collection services are in high demand, so it’s no surprise that they chose the Heil Big Bite as the latest addition to their RCV fleet.
The Heil Big Bite has a 27 cu/m capacity, making it able to transport a considerable amount of waste at any one time and it is renowned for being hard working and reliable. Kirklees has a fleet of 80 RCV’s and this new Heil vehicle will be working throughout the district on general domestic waste. It has also been fitted with an on-board weighing machine to monitor the waste it is collecting.
Stuart Wiseman, Transport Operations Manager at Kirklees commented: “The Heil Big Bite came out top of our tender criteria and we have been impressed with the vehicle and the company. I personally visited the Heil factory and saw the attention to detail that goes into the design and build of the RCV’s. The Heil team have also been very supportive with their aftersales and training, giving us an all round good customer experience”.
Heil’s Big Bite is considered to be the industry standard in REL design. It offers a refuse carrying capacity of up to 31m³ which, with the large 2.5m³ hopper, facilitates the collection of large refuse items and reduces the collection time for each trip by increasing the volume packed in each cycle. With its programmable logic controls (PLC) the Big Bite offers simplified control, reliable operation and system conditioning monitoring.
