Heil Helps South Cambridgeshire District Council Schools and the Environment
South Cambridgeshire District Council has recently taken delivery of a new Heil Powerlink, with another to be delivered in the near future. Both Heil vehicles will contribute to the great environmental work that South Cambridgeshire have been doing within the community.
The 16m Powerlink body, mounted on an 8x4 Mercedes Econic chassis, has a 6M Pod fitted with an 1100 Litre eurobin Heil UTL trade bin lift. The vehicle has been put to good use collecting household bulky waste and residual waste in the rear conventional body.
The 6M pod will be used for paper recycling collections mainly from schools. The pod system will enable South Cambs Council to provide schools with 55 litre boxes which will be placed in classrooms and can be emptied straight in to the 1100 eurobin. Enabling schools in the area to fulfil National Curriculum criteria on recycling and green waste.
Stuart Harwood-Clark, Environment Operations Manager for South Cambs was once again reassured by Heil’s quality service and product, “The excellent performance of the Heil RCV’s gives us operational reliability as well as flexibility in our working patterns. This new configuration of a Heil body on a Mercedes chassis means we can have a conventional body with the Pod on a chassis that allows for a higher payload, but the same manoeuvrability. We have worked with Heil many times in the past and have never been disappointed.”
The Powerlink provides flexibility to any RCV fleet. With its full-cycle compaction mechanism, it produces less friction than conventional channelled compaction systems thus ensuring that a greater force is directed into the load. The reduction of friction increases durability of materials, improving whole life costs.
